Sept 6: Warmth Returns Tomorrow

This morning was a very chilly one across the area, with low temperatures as low as the lower 40s inland, though temperatures did warm up nicely into the upper 70s to lower 80s for most of the area. As the cool air mass exits, a significant yet brief warm up will return for tomorrow, with high temperatures potentially reaching the 90 degree mark once again for places who have seen it many times this year.

Tomorrow's Outlook:

A warm air mass will spread into the area tomorrow, with 850 mb temperatures between 15c and 18c. This will result in high temperatures reaching the mid-upper 80s inland, upper 80s to lower 90s for the immediate NYC area, and with a SSW wind, Long Island and S CT are expected to reach the lower to mid 80s.

The NYC area has seen an unusually high number of 90+ degree days this year, with Teterboro, NJ at 40 days and Newark, NJ at 50 days. Tomorrow will be one of, if not the last days of 90+ degrees for the area, and could add another day of 90+ degrees for these airports.

Wednesday - Friday: Cooling Down

Wednesday will bring a cold front through, with highs in the lower 80s inland and mid to upper 80s for the immediate NYC area, however the cold front will bring very little rain as most of the precipitation will stay in northern New England. Behind this cold front will be a much cooler air mass, bringing high temperatures down into the lower 70s inland and lower to mid 70s elsewhere for Thursday, with Friday's highs also similar. Overnight lows will be chilly, in the mid to upper 40s inland, lower to potentially mid 50s for the N/W suburbs of NYC, mid to upper 50s for NYC, lower 50s for S CT, and mid 50s for Long Island, though these forecast lows are subject to change.

Due to uncertainty on the smaller details, including where Hermine's remnants exactly end up and whether Sunday's storm in the Northeast will bring a cool down or bring warmer temperatures, an update on the longer range will not be posted tonight, however things will start to warm up by Saturday. More on this range will come with tomorrow's update.
