Aug 10, 2011: Heavy Rain Possible On Sunday

With yesterday's low pressure out of the area, today brought partly sunny skies and warmer temperatures, reaching the mid to upper 80s from NYC and further west and the mid 80s across most of Long Island/S CT, with lower 80s closer to the coast and a few upper 80s closer to NYC. Temperatures will cool down tomorrow as a colder air mass moves in, only reaching the upper 70s to mid 80s across the area, gradually warming up through Saturday until another storm reaches the area on Sunday, bringing another potential for heavy rainfall.

Tomorrow's Outlook:

Tomorrow will bring colder temperatures across the region and into the area as well, only reaching the upper 70s to lower 80s inland, lower to mid 80s in the immediate NYC area, and with a NW wind, Long Island/S CT will reach the lower to mid 80s as well. Mostly sunny skies are expected.

With mostly clear skies overnight and a high pressure nearby, tomorrow night will bring colder temperatures as well. Low temperatures are expected to drop into the lower to mid 50s in NW NJ/Orange County, mid to upper 50s in southern CT, upper 50s to lower 60s in Long Island/NE NJ, and in the lower to mid 60s in NYC.

Friday And Beyond: Dry, Then Stormy Again

On Friday and Saturday, with a high pressure near the region, mostly sunny skies will continue with temperatures gradually warming up, reaching the mid to upper 80s from NYC and further west on Saturday. Scattered thunderstorms will slowly move into the region from the west on Saturday night before another low pressure reaches the region on Sunday. With high precipitable water values and moisture, heavy rain is possible on Sunday into Sunday night, with amounts potentially from 1 to as much as 3 inches of rain. Tomorrow's update will discuss Sunday's heavy rainfall risk in more detail.
