June 10, 2012: Heavy Rain For Tuesday Night
Forecast Highlights:
- Cooler temperatures stick through next week
- Heavy rain risk for Tuesday night
- Still no true summer-like heat in sight
------------------------------------------------------
The observations of the last few days will be added on Monday.
Tomorrow's Outlook:
Mostly sunny skies are expected across the area tomorrow with SE winds due to the back door cold front moving through, resulting in cooler temperatures near the surface. Highs will reach the lower to mid 70s in Long Island/S CT, mid to upper 70s in the immediate NYC area, and upper 70s to lower 80s inland.
Tuesday - Beyond: Heavy Rain, Then Dry And Seasonable
A cold front will approach the region on Tuesday, resulting in an area of heavy rain moving through the NYC area on Tuesday evening into early Wednesday. There is not much of a severe weather risk with this set up, as heavy rain will be the main risk, with amounts ending up in the 1-2 inch range for parts of the area with isolated amounts above 2 inches possible. Temperatures will slightly cool down on Tuesday, reaching the 70s across the area, slightly warming into the mid 70s to lower 80s on Wednesday with the warmest temperatures closer to NYC.
Beyond the mid week storm, another ridge will build into the central US, with an offshore cutoff low keeping cooler temperatures closer to the coast while the heat stays well to the west and north, as observed during most of the heat spells with the current pattern. While no widespread rain is expected, temperatures will generally remain seasonable, likely reaching the mid 70s to lower 80s range through the end of the week and likely into the weekend, which at this time does not appear to end up rainy.
