June 1, 2012: Heavy Rain Tonight

Tonight's Outlook:

The line of severe thunderstorms that affected the Mid Atlantic earlier today is now entering the area but is no longer severe, instead containing heavy rain and thunder. The rain is expected to amount to 1/2 to 1 inch across most of the area, with amounts locally above 1 inch in parts of the area. Most of the rain will end by 7-8 AM, although scattered showers may last until 12 PM, especially east of NYC. Otherwise, partly cloudy skies are expected tomorrow afternoon with temperatures rising into the mid 70s across most of the area, getting into the upper 70s in parts of the immediate NYC area.



Sunday - Next Week: Chilly, Some Rain


Starting on Sunday and lasting through most of next week, a large trough will remain stuck over the region, resulting in chilly temperatures for this time of the year, in some cases as much as 10 degrees below the average high. Partly to mostly cloudy skies with scattered showers are expected between Sunday and Tuesday with highs in the upper 60s to lower 70s across the area, reaching the mid 60s in some places. For the second half of the week, partly cloudy skies will persist; there is still a risk of scattered showers, but that potential is slightly lower than that of the first half of the week. Temperatures will slowly warm up, getting back into the mid 70s by Friday and/or the weekend. Stay tuned for more information on next week's outlook.
