Aug 6, 2011: Stormy Start To Week Expected

Since the last update, light to moderate rain continued to affect the northern half of the area, especially in SE NY and southern Connecticut, while the southern half of the area stayed mostly dry. Estimated rainfall amounts so far based on the radar are a trace in most of Long Island and eastern Connecticut, 1/4 to 3/4 inch in N NJ, and 1/4 to 1 inch in SE NY. There is more rain headed towards the area from southeastern Pennsylvania, and while rainfall amounts will not end up in the 1 to 2 inch range originally expected, totals will increase through the overnight hours, ending up between 1/2 and 1.25 inch from NYC and further west, up to 1/2 inch in Long Island, and between 1/4 and 1 inch in S CT.

Tomorrow's Outlook:

Most of the rain should fall tonight, but additional showers and thunderstorms are possible tomorrow as well. Mostly cloudy skies are expected with scattered showers and thunderstorms, and with a south/SSW wind expected, high temperatures will reach the lower to mid 80s inland, mid to potentially upper 80s in the immediate NYC area, and the lower 80s in Long Island/S CT.

Monday - Wednesday: Scattered Storms

With another low pressure approaching the region from the west, unsettled weather will continue through Wednesday. Monday through Wednesday will bring scattered thunderstorms to the region, and while at this time, no significant severe weather outbreak is expected, it is possible that some of these storms could become strong or locally severe. High temperatures from Monday through Wednesday are expected to be in the mid to upper 80s from NYC and further west, and in the lower to mid 80s in Long Island and southern Connecticut. Thursday and Friday are expected to be dry, with temperatures similar to those of the early-mid week.
