Aug 1, 2011 Noon Update

6:40 PM: While most of the area has stayed dry this afternoon, especially west of NYC, some scattered severe activity was observed in the area. Early this afternoon, strong storms affected portions of southern Long Island. The most persistent storms, however, took place over western Nassau county, where a hail producing storm was stuck for at least an hour, if not more. A small severe thunderstorm also formed over east central Bergen county and moved towards Bronx.

Most of the area is currently quiet, however there is a severe thunderstorm currently over central/southern Westchester county. This storm is very slow moving, and will continue to affect Westchester county for the next 30-45 minutes before moving out. Northern Nassau county will be affected by this storm in at least 20 minutes.
