Aug 4, 2011: More Rain On Sunday

After yesterday's storm left the region, bringing 1/4 to 3/4 inch of rain from NYC and further west and up to 1/4 inch in Long Island and southern Connecticut, today was a much drier day across the area, as partly sunny skies were observed. High temperatures reached the lower 80s inland, lower to mid 80s in the immediate NYC area, and the upper 70s to lower 80s in Long Island/S CT, which was slightly warmer than expected.

Temperatures will slightly warm up tomorrow, reaching the mid 80s from NYC and further west, but this warm up will only be weak and brief, as another low pressure approaches the area on Saturday night and Sunday, bringing colder temperatures along with a risk of heavy rainfall, locally up to 2 inches or more. Afterwards, it appears that a seasonable and wet pattern may continue through the rest of next week.

Tomorrow's Outlook:

Tomorrow will bring mostly to partly sunny skies to the area with a SE wind. This will bring temperatures into the mid 80s in the immediate NYC area, lower to mid 80s inland, and the upper 70s in Long Island/S CT.

Saturday And Beyond: Rainy Pattern Begins

Saturday will be mostly dry for the area, with temperatures similar to those of tomorrow along with a SE wind as well. On Saturday night, however, a low pressure will move into the region, bringing more rain. Rain is expected to develop on Saturday night, and will continue mostly through Sunday afternoon, though scattered storms could continue afterwards. High precipitable water values are expected, between 2 and 2.5 inches, which will bring a risk of heavy rainfall, with amounts locally up to 2 inches or more. After Sunday, there is some uncertainty with exactly what happens, but at this time, it appears that low pressures will continue to affect the region early-mid next week, bringing partly cloudy skies and scattered thunderstorms. Temperatures are expected to be generally seasonable, in the lower to mid 80s across most of the area. More information will be posted on next week's outlook as details become clearer.
