June 1, 2012 Noon Update

6:00 PM: Severe Storms, Heavy Rain Develop West

A large severe weather outbreak is currently taking place in the Mid Atlantic, with a widespread tornado watch in that region. Two tornadoes have already been reported, and as the radar to the left shows, the outbreak is still ongoing. The storms will continue to intensify and become more widespread in Pennsylvania, with a line of heavy rain and thunder expected to approach the area by late this evening. After 12 AM further west and 2-4 AM further east, the line of heavy rain and thunder will move through the area, with the heaviest rain expected west of NYC, where 1 to 2 inches of rain are expected. Further south/east, at least 1/2 to 1 inch is expected to fall, although recent model runs have lowered the rain amounts. More information on tonight's heavy rain event will be posted with tonight's discussion.
