Sept 4, 2011: Rain Returns Tomorrow

Since Hurricane Irene brought extreme rainfall into the area, the last week brought dry conditions as a high pressure took control across the region. This high pressure has since left the region as a slow moving cold front began moving towards the region, and with Lee's remnants expected to result in more moisture moving up the front, moderate to heavy rain will return into the area tomorrow and on Tuesday, with a risk of showers lasting through the rest of the week.

Tomorrow's Outlook:

The slow moving cold front brought a severe weather outbreak today to parts of New York and Pennsylvania while the area stayed dry. The rain ahead of this front will reach the area tomorrow, affecting places from NYC and further west by tomorrow around the late afternoon or evening hours and moving further east in the overnight hours. High temperatures will be in the mid to upper 70s inland, upper 70s to lower 80s in the immediate NYC area, and the mid to upper 70s in Long Island and S CT as well.

Week Ahead: Cloudy, Rainy, Chilly

Tomorrow will be the start of what will be a mainly cloudy and rainy week. With Lee's remnants drifting NE towards the Ohio Valley, the front will bring moderate to locally heavy rain in the area on Monday night into Tuesday, with rainfall amounts in the area ranging from 1/2 to 2.5 inches from NYC and further west and 1/4 to 3/4 inch in Long Island and southern Connecticut. Due to the rain on Tuesday, temperatures will be colder as well, only peaking in the upper 60s to mid 70s across the area.

The cold front is expected to stall on Tuesday, and the colder air mass in the north central US will not be able to move into the area. Instead, temperatures aloft will begin to warm up as scattered showers continue to fall across the region. Temperatures will still remain chilly, in the lower to mid 70s in most of the area on Wednesday and Thursday. By Friday and next weekend, as the influence from Lee's remnants begins to end across the region, temperatures will warm up, getting close to the 80 degree mark by the weekend. Stay tuned for more information on Lee's remnants and how they will affect the area with tomorrow's update.
