May 11, 2011: Clouds, Storms To Return Soon

Today brought increased cloud cover to the area, slightly more than expected, through temperatures were still in the 60s to lower 70s across most of the area today. Tomorrow will be warmer once again with partly sunny skies and highs in the lower to upper 60s east of NYC and upper 60s to mid 70s from NYC and further west, but these dry and comfortable conditions won't last long before a storm approaches the area, bringing clouds and storms that will not be quick to exit.

Friday - Saturday:

Friday will bring partly cloudy skies once again with highs similar to those of Thursday but slightly cooler. As a large cut off low approaches the region from the west, however, Friday night will bring increasing cloud cover to the area. The storm will be slow to move east, and as a result mostly cloudy skies are expected on Saturday with little to no rain. High temperatures will be slightly cooler on Saturday, peaking in the mid to upper 60s at most in the immediate NYC area.

Next Week: Consistent Rain, Thunderstorms

Next week's conditions will be opposite compared to this week, when each day brought mostly to partly sunny skies and highs in the 60s and 70s. As a slow moving storm will slowly drift east, occasional showers and thunderstorms are expected from Sunday through Tuesday. Severe weather potential, if any, is uncertain, though especially with cloud cover and a lack of bulk shear, any severe weather is unlikely to be widespread at this time. With the scenario in place, it is difficult to narrow down exactly where the low pressure will be, but regardless of the exact location, showers and thunderstorms will continue through much of next week, likely ending around Thursday.
