A high pressure system remained parked over the region once again, bringing another partly cloudy and seasonable day in the NYC tri-state area. A building heat surge in the Great Lakes, however, will bring an end to this stretch of nice weather as scattered thunderstorms affect the area tomorrow. Behind these storms, heat and humidity will make a brief return on Sunday followed by a cold front approaching on Monday, but due to interaction with Tropical Storm Lee, moderate to heavy rain may affect the area once again early-mid next week.
Weekend Outlook:
With the area in the eastern end of the warmth on Saturday, mostly cloudy skies are expected along with isolated thunderstorms, mainly in the afternoon, though these storms should stay below severe levels. High temperatures will slightly warm up, reaching the lower to mid 80s inland, mid 80s in the immediate NYC area, and in the upper 70s in most of Long Island/S CT due to a SSW wind.
On Sunday, partly to mostly cloudy skies are expected once again, and along with warmer temperatures aloft and a SSW wind, warmer temperatures are expected, reaching the mid 80s inland, upper 80s to potentially the lower 90s in the immediate NYC area, and the upper 70s to lower 80s in most of Long Island/S CT due to the onshore wind. Scattered thunderstorms may be possible in the evening and overnight hours west of NYC, but the best risk of storms will stay to the west of the area, in Pennsylvania.
Brief Long Range Outlook: There continues to be uncertainty for next week, but with Lee's remnants expected to move up the coast, there is an increasing probability of a moderate to heavy rain event affecting the area between Monday and Wednesday. This has the potential to bring over 1 inch of rain to parts of the area along with cooler temperatures, only reaching the lower 70s in the immediate NYC area for highs. Stay tuned for more information on next week with tomorrow's update.
