June 9, 2013: Rain, Cooler Temps Tomorrow

Forecast Highlights:

With a high pressure over the region, mostly sunny skies were observed with warmer temperatures, peaking in the upper 70s to low 80s for most of the area. The dry conditions will quickly come to an end, however, as a warm front approaches the area tomorrow and moves through overnight, producing widespread rain, locally heavy. Temperatures will otherwise remain near to slightly below average with additional rain chances for the rest of the week.

Tonight - Tuesday: Stormy, Cooler

The high pressure that was over the region today will continue to slide east, with a low pressure approaching from the Ohio Valley, spreading in widespread cloud cover and showers into the region as a warm front approaches. Occasional showers will spread into the area mainly after 12 PM on Monday, with highs peaking early in the day in the upper 60s to low 70s, falling into the mid to upper 60s by the evening. Locally heavy rain is expected especially in the evening and early overnight hours, with rain becoming lighter for the rest of the overnight hours. With the warm front nearby, temperatures will remain steady near the mid 60s overnight, rising on Tuesday into the mid 70s to near 80 degrees with mostly cloudy skies and scattered afternoon thunderstorms. Overall, rain totals are expected to amount to 1/2 to 1 inch, with totals locally higher up to 2 inches.


Wednesday - Next Weekend: Rain Possible, Then Dry

Partly to mostly cloudy skies are expected on Wednesday with highs again in the mid 70s to low 80s, along with the risk of an isolated shower or thunderstorm. A wave of low pressure is expected to track south of the area on Thursday; the main uncertainty at this time is regarding the exact timing and how far north rain spreads, with most of the models currently keeping the rain either barely over the area or to the south. At this time, I included a 60% chance of rain as confidence is not high enough at this time to certainly expect rain, although the outlook is subject to change; should the low pressure track north enough to affect the area as currently modeled, temperatures would be chilly, possibly in the 60s for highs, with heavy rain over 1/2 to 1 inch a likely possibility. A high pressure is then expected for the weekend, with more sunshine and temperatures likely close to average, around the upper 70s to low 80s, followed by another risk of rain towards early next week.
